Ultimaker PLA and tough PLA filaments

Ultimaker PLA and Tough PLA filaments are translucent, rigid 3D printing materials characterized by high-strength and ease of printing. PLA stands for Polylactic Acid, a non-toxic polymer made from renewable raw materials that features a low melting temperature. Ultimaker PLA and Tough PLA provide you with great manufacturing flexibility and reliability as well as good surface quality.

Ultimaker PLA can be easily printed at high speeds. It flows smoothly granting dimensional accuracy and good print quality. It can be used for several applications, including rapid prototyping, investment casting, and design proofing. It is compatible for dual extrusion with PLA, PVA and Breakaway support materials. Also, it can be used with all Ultimaker 3D printers currently available on the market (Ultimaker 2, Ultimaker 3, Ultimaker S5, and more).

Ultimaker Tough PLA is a reinforced version of the standard PLA. It is almost as tough as Ultimaker ABS filament while remaining simple to print. Unlike the standard version, Tough PLA features improved machinability and no warping or delamination. It is suitable for printing large, functional products and complex geometries. Tough PLA is supported by all the 3D printers of the Ultimaker 3 family and by the Ultimaker S5. Continue reading to find out more about the Ultimaker PLA filament collections.

This good-looking, detailed model is a great example of the printing results achievable with Ultimaker PLA.

Filament features

Ultimaker PLA

PLA filament has optimal flexural strength and good impact strength. This hard material melts at a low temperature (from 145 to 160 °C), being compatible with non-heated print beds.

Ultimaker Tough PLA

Tough PLA features high hardness and good flexural and impact strength. It melts at 151 °C. It is easier to post-process than the original PLA and delivers a matter finish.

Filament spools

Both PLA and Tough PLA have a diameter of 2.85 mm. Ultimaker PLA comes in spools of 350 or 750 g, while Tough PLA is only available with a net weight of 750g.
