The Anycubic Photon D2 is a DLP resin 3D printer featuring several major upgrades compared to its predecessor, the Photon Ultra model. The second company’s DLP machine has a 62% larger build volume, higher projector resolution, and implements some new features and technologies that significantly improve the Photon D2 performance and print quality.
There are not a lot of DLP-based hobbyist 3D printers at an affordable price, and the D2 is definitely one of the best models in this market. Having a highly competitive price, the device is equipped with a 2560 x 1440 DLP projector, and features anti-aliasing and light uniformity algorithms allowing for crisp, extremely-detailed models with perfectly smooth surface finish. The DLP resin printing technology has some advantages over the more common for consumer devices LCD. The Photon D2’s projector lifespan is 20,000 hours, which is ten times longer than that of an average LCD matrix. Due to little heat generation, the DLP printers do not need active cooling and can work much quieter than LCD-based printers. Apart from that, the energy consumption of the Photon D2 is only 15 W while LCD devices require several times more power.
Typical of Anycubic resin 3D printers, the Photon D2 requires very little setup before you can start printing. This includes installation of the build platform and resin vat and manual calibration of the print bed using four leveling screws on its sides. The process is simple and does not take long. Like with the new Photon M3 series models, the D2’s build plate is laser-engraved with a checkerboard pattern for better first layer adhesion.
Thanks to its exemplary print quality, the Anycubic Photon D2 can be successfully used for professional applications, such as printing dental appliances or jewelry mold patterns, as well as for hobbyist printing.

The Photon D2 can print layers at a minimum height of 10 microns. Due to the difference in the DLP and LCD technologies, namely the ability of DLP printers to change the pixel size when printing smaller models, and the absence of light bleeding issue, typical of LCD screens, the print quality of the Photon D2 is extremely high and comparable to 8K LCD printers. The models feature a lot of fine details and thanks to the anti-aliasing algorithm, the surface finish is flawless and does not have visible layer lines.

The Photon D2 prints with 405 nm photosensitive resins. Anycubic recommends using its DLP Craftsman Resin developed specifically for DLP 3D printing. It is available in four colors and has ceramic powder added to its formula for higher light sensitivity. Besides the proprietary materials, you can use any compatible resins from third-party manufacturers.
The Anycubic Photon D2 features a build volume of 131 x 73 x 165 mm, which is significantly bigger than its predecessor’s and is enough for printing miniatures or jewelry mold patterns.
The Photon D2 is operated via a 2.8" color LCD touchscreen with simple navigation including Print, System, and Tools submenus. On the right side of the base there is a USB port and a power switch button.
The Photon D2 is recommended to use with the proprietary Anycubic Photon Workshop software. It has a clear, user-friendly interface and provides all the basic editing tools, allowing you to scale, rotate, and flip the model, generate support structures, choose orientation, and more. Photon Workshop supports STL / OBJ file formats, and sliced models are transferred to the printer on a USB stick.
