Artec Space Spider is an industrial, handheld 3D scanner. It relies on blue light technology, which makes it easy to use, highly precise, and extremely safe. It is the latest version of the regular Artec Spider (now discontinued), providing faster scanning at lower operating temperatures. To do that, it adopts an effective temperature stabilization system and engineering-grade electronics. It comes ready to work, you’ll only have to plug it, point and shoot. No calibration or target required. Compact in size, it is really light, weighing only 0.8 kg. It can reach a scanning speed of up to 7.5 fps.
Thanks to its professional-grade hardware, the Artec Space Spider is capable of capturing full-color textures with vivid color, complex geometries and intricate details of both small and large industrial products. It comes with five eyes, namely the central RGB camera surrounded by LED flash bulbs, the blue light pattern projector in the bottom-right corner and three dedicated sensors. Thus, it delivers accurate results brilliant in colors.
It has been used in small-scale manufacturing, reverse engineering and custom design to capture a range of industrial parts. It can be used together with the Artec Eva for wider applications. Scroll down for a deeper review.

Artec Space Spider is a professional, handheld 3D scanner with an accuracy of 0.05 mm. It is equipped with three different cameras placed at various angles and depths to ensure optimal accuracy and high resolution (0.1 mm). It lets you create 3D models of industrial products with minute precision. The 1.3 Mpx texture resolution allows for reproducing precise, full-color 3D replicas of the scanned objects. It has been originally designed to spec for the International Space Station. Its industrial-grade hardware ensures high accuracy and long-term repeatability since its accuracy is not affected by fluctuations in environmental conditions. It works at consistent speed processing up to 1 million points per second.
As stated by the company, Artec Space Spider is so accurate it can even render the ridges of a fingerprint. Or a megalodon tooth too.

The scanner works with the proprietary Artec Studio. It is a professional 3D data processing program able to editing data in a fast and effective way. It is suitable for either beginners and professionals thanks to the various operation modes available. For instance, the Autopilot automatically guides you through all the necessary post-processing steps. It allows building a perfect 3D model with ease. The manual mode gives you full control over advanced settings instead. Artec Studio can export 3D models in a range of formats (OBJ, PLY, WRL, STL, AOP, ASCII, Disney PTX, E57, XYZRGB, CSV, DXF, XML), offering huge compatibility with other commercial and open-source hardware and software.
