The Bq Hephestos 2 is a 3D printer kit inspired by the Prusa i3 design. As a DIY kit, it needs to be assembled. It is composed of the minimum number of elements necessary for its operation. Each part is well-packed and easy to recognize. You can do the assembly process in less than an hour. It is an improved version of the original Hephestos. With a revised design, it offers a larger build area of 210 x 297 x 220 mm. Unlike the previous model, all of the parts are made of metal except for some polymethacrylate covers. Using aluminum and steel components results in more stability, stiffness, and professional finish. The redesigned extruder with a self-developed Double Drive Gear system lets you print with a variety of filaments, both standard, flexible, and exotics. The gear wheels seamlessly feed the consumable to the end of the hotend reducing clogging risks. The extrusion module is also equipped with an inductor sensor for auto-calibrating the print plate. The printer includes an enhanced UI and an energy-saving system. Either the firmware and hardware are open-source, enabling on-going updates and upgrades.
The Hephestos 2 is a personal FDM 3D printer that has been used to print a wide variety of bodies for electronic devices, table game pawns, and other models. Read more in our review.

The Hephestos 2 is an FDM 3D printer that can print layers at 50 microns. This way you can produce parts with smooth exterior surfaces. The calibration sensor constantly checks the distance between the extruder and the bed to properly level the plate. The main electronic components, including the BQ Zum CNC circuit board, have been produced from the ground up to ensure smooth motion and optimal heat dissipation. The high-precision hardware provides top-grade performance. The printer is capable of producing high-quality prints.
This vase is extremely smooth. It has been printed at 205°C with a wood filament. The layers are imperceptible.

The print head runs on rails, making the design more simple, lightweight and effective, all characteristics that are desirable in a 3D printer.
Hephestos 2 prints with PLA, wood, bronze, copper, FilaFlex, and other materials.
For example, this 3D model has been printed using a flexible filament.

The Hephestos 2 has a heated print bed, which makes it suitable for printing with ABS-type materials.
To ensure high reproducibility, we recommend installing an enclosed print chamber. This way the print quality would not be affected by temperature fluctuations as a result of drafts and other factors.

The Hephestos 2 prints with the majority of 1.75 mm filaments, providing you with a wide choice of materials.
The build area of 8.3 x 11.7 x 8.7 inches (210 x 297 x 220 mm) lets you print just about anything, even a cosplay cold steel arm.

The printer is controlled via PC or the built-in LCD interface. The whole interface and all the main electronic components have been developed in-house by the BQ team.
You can import your 3d models from a tethered computer or directly via a USB stick or SD card.
Thanks to its open-source nature, the printer is compatible with the Cura, slic3r, Repetier, Kisslicer and other commercial slicing software. It works with any type of 3D model format (STL, G-Code, and more). The software is available for Mac OS, Microsoft Windows, and Linux.

Hephestos 2 is available in gray with yellow trims.
The printer dimensions are 17.7 x 20.3 x 22.5 inches (450 x 516 x 571 mm). It weighs 30 lb (13.72 kg). The spool holder is mounted atop the machine.
The price of the Hephestos 2 is $999.00, which is reasonable considering its functionality.
