The Crane WASP is a collaborative 3D printing system targeted to end-use production of functional buildings. It is an expandable house 3D printer designed to be assembled in multiple configurations. Indeed, it is composed of modular traverses and printer arms, which let you vary the printing area according to the sizes of the architectural 3D model to be printed. The overall structure is extremely simple to assemble and disassemble. It makes for easy transportation and fast configuration. The main unit has a build area of Ø 21.6 x 9.8 ft. It is ideal for producing houses and vertical gardens.
The Crane WASP is capable of printing with on-site, zero-mile materials, just like a potter wasp. Each module can independently print with a variety of building materials, including cement, bio cement, and natural dough. When combining multiple Crane WASP 3D printers, you will benefit from a virtually infinite building area. As part of the Maker Economy Starter Kit, it comes in a container all the necessary parts required to build a self-sufficient village. It works together with a mechanical hoe for melting straw and clay, a concrete mixer, a motor pump feeding system, an extrusion module, and a recycling shredder. It can be assembled directly on-site. For example, it has been used to 3D print Gaia, the below-pictured house.
The Crane WASP is an FDM 3D printer that can print layers at 9 mm. It reaches a print speed of 300mm/s and a travel speed of 500mm/s with a maximum acceleration of 20mm/s2.
The LDM XL extrusion system is compatible with nozzles with a diameter from 18 to 30 mm.
The Crane WASP can print with earth-based materials, cement mortar, and geopolymers.
It is capable of printing with materials found directly in the construction area.
The build area of a single unit is Ø 21.6 x 9.8 ft (Ø 6.6 x 3 m). By moving or reconfiguring the machine, you can even print houses of bigger dimensions.
The printer is controlled over Wi-Fi. The printer software runs on Windows. It is compatible with G-Code files sliced in Grasshopper.
