The mechArm 270 Pi designed by the Chinese-based Elephant Robotics company is a compact and lightweight 6-axis robotic arm. Alongside the , the device belongs to the mechArm 270 series of 6-axis robotic arms, where 270 refers to the working range of the robot. Both modifications share the same mechanical construction and are equipped with the ESP32-based M5Stack Atom development board. The key difference between the two models is the mainboard they are based on, and, consequently, some variations in operation, capabilities, and application scenarios.

The mechArm 270 is extremely compact for a six-axis cobot and weighs only 1 kg. With the maximum load capacity of 250 grams, the working radius of 270 mm, and versatile operating capabilities, it is a perfect tool for makers, designers, and for those making their first steps in robotics and programming. It is Linux-compatible, has built-in ROS and Python support, and features Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet connectivity.

The Elephant Robotics mechArm 270 Pi is based on Raspberry Pi 4B mainboard featuring a 64-bit 1.5 GHz 4-core CPU that runs on the open source Ubuntu 18.04 software platform. The end of the arm houses the ESP32-based M5Stack Atom development board with a 5 x 5 RGB LED matrix panel, additional GPIO pins, a Grove interface, a programmable button, a USB-C port, and a steering gear interface for the connection of some end effectors, such as an adaptive gripper. The arm end is equipped with a Lego-compatible connector that expands the cobot’s customization opportunities and allows for quick and easy installation of multiple end effectors, including grippers, suction pumps, sensors, cameras, and much more.

The Lego-compatible base of the mechArm 270 Pi allows you to attach an optional flat or G-shaped base for enhanced stability. The use of suction base greatly adds to the versatility of your cobot, allowing you to place it on any flat smooth surface, both horizontal and vertical.

Processing quality

Six high-performance servo motors of the mechArm 270 Pi provide quick response and smooth rotation of the six joints with the repeatability of ±0.5 mm. The maximum joint rotating speed is 120°/s.
