Castable Resin is an SLA 3D printing material produced by Formlabs. Designed for burnout and casting, it is ideal for jewelry design, digital dentistry and rapid manufacturing. Indeed, it is capable of capturing complex geometries and shapes delivering capillary details, sharp edges and good surface finish with no visible layers.
Formlabs Castable Resin is an acrylate pure photopolymer formulated for direct investment casting. Reliable and simple to burnout, it has been used for printing filigrees and parts with clean and detailed surface decorations. Instead of melting, Castable Resin transitions to gas. For this reason, it requires a specific burnout process, which slows down the expansion process of the part reducing the risk of cracking. Compatible with the proprietary Form 2 3D printers, it will soon be available for the Form 3 models. Continue reading for a deeper review.
Castable Resin is ideal for direct investment casting of highly detailed rings, bracelets or earrings. As you can see, it is capable of reproducing minute details with extreme accuracy.

For most designs, when printing with Castable Resin, you can set a layer height of 50 microns to get accurate results in rapid times. Otherwise, 100- and 25-micron layer heights are also supported. The material print settings are optimized for producing top-notch castable parts for both jewelry design and orthodontics.
Green Castable resin features:
Parts printed with Castable Resin need post-curing. First, wash the Castable Resin parts in 90%+ isopropyl alcohol (IPA) using two sequential five-minute rinses. When completely dry, you can post-cure them on all surfaces under a 405nm light.
Castable Resin contains titanium dioxide, a component that separates from the mixture when unused. For this reason, you should always shake the cartridge and mix the resin in the tank before printing.
Castable Resin is available in blue.
