Clear resin is one of the Standard Resins produced by Formlabs. When printing with Clear Resin, you’ll get precise and sturdy parts rich in detail and with smooth surfaces right out of the printer. Indeed, this type of material doesn’t require post-curing. If properly polished, it can reach a high level of optical transparency.
It can be used to produce a variety of translucent or transparent parts and engines for optical, lighting and mold making applications. Also, it is ideal for showing the internal features of a product. With the right post-processing method, you can achieve different grades of transparency. The most common finishing methods are manual sanding, clear coating, and resin dipping. The company claims that some users have even been able to successfully cast the Clear Resin.
It can be used on both Formlabs Form 3 and Form 2 SLA printers. An additional transparent material, the Formlabs Dental LT Clear Resin, has been specifically formulated for professional applications in digital dentistry. Continue reading our complete review.
For example, the engineer Amos Dudley designed and then produced an optical-grade transparent lens for a 3D printed camera using the Formlabs Clear resin. Look at the picture below. As you can see, the lens shines.
Clear resin can be printed at different layer heights (25, 50 and 100 microns). It is supplied in 1L cartridges.
