Formlabs High Temp is a performance photopolymer resin characterized by high thermal stability. It has the highest heat deflection temperature among Formlabs materials. Unlike similar heat-resistant resins, it features acceptable elongation at break. It is part of the proprietary Engineering and Jewelry resin libraries. 

Thanks to its high resistance to high temperatures, it is commonly used by engineers and jewelry designers for the production of highly-detailed, accurate prototypes, mounts, fixtures, and molds. It supports hot air, gas, and fluid flow as well as the pressures of medium temperature vulcanized rubber molding. Thus, it is ideal for high heat applications.

High-temp resin is compatible with Formlabs Form 3 and Form 2 3D printers. Depending on the layer height, the surfaces will be more or less smooth. However, the print quality will always be the same. According to Formlabs, it is better to avoid printing models directly on the build plate to reduce the risk of adhesion issues. Also, adding support structures to your models is strongly suggested. When using a standard resin tank, you should always check the clarity of the elastic layer and replace the tank more often.

Parts printed with Formlabs High Temp resins require post-curing. You should wash, dry and post-cure them to benefit from the highest material HDT and mechanical properties. Continue reading for a deeper review.

Resin features

Formlabs High Temp supports different print resolutions (25, 50, 100 microns). It ships in 1L cartridges. It has a heat deflection temperature (HDT) of 289 °C @ 0.45 MPa. This means it deforms at 238 °C under a specified load. Once post-cured, it features an elongation at break of 2 %.

It is perfect for moldmaking. For example, it has been used to 3D print the below-pictured injection mold.

After post-curing, the resin features the following mechanical and thermal properties:

  • Thermal Expansion (0 – 150 °C): 87.5 µm/m/°C



To achieve the maximum HDT, it is recommended to post-cure the printed model in Form Cure for 120 min at 80 °C and thermally post-cure it in a non-food oven for 3 hours at 160 °C. Remember that High Temp parts might absorb isopropyl alcohol (IPA).
