The Polyga CarbonXL is an industrial-grade 3D scanner that adopts and enhances the capabilities of the original Carbon model. The product features a detachable rail system ensuring maximum flexibility — slide the cameras on the mount to configure their position and set the field of view required. The latter was also enlarged to 800 mm, enabling you to digitize more sizable items. Apart from that, the XL version uses a projector with more lumens, which, along with a bit higher accuracy of the system, makes for impressive quality and detail. The device generates about 4.9 million points per scan (compared to 3 million in the original Carbon).

The device is great for medium-sized objects and indispensable for really large ones. Its resolution is more than enough for a plethora of applications including reverse engineering, scientific measurement, 3D visualization and 3D printing, quality inspection. Look at the following scans made with the CarbonXL to check what it’s capable of.

Scan accuracy

The Polyga CarbonXL is a structured-light 3D scanner equipped with two 5.0 megapixel cameras. Having a flexible field of view, the system features varying accuracy — from 25 microns for 70 mm FOV to 70 microns for 800 mm FOV. The point-to-point distance is 0.027 mm and 0.260 mm respectively.

Scan volume

In contrast to the original Carbon that has only two preset mounting positions, the CarbonXL sports a flexible slider mount, so you can place the cameras anywhere and create the field of view you want, from ⌀ 70 to 800 mm (which is the largest FOV out of all Polyga devices). The stand-off distance will be 160 mm for 70 mm FOV and 1280 mm for 800 mm FOV.

Scanner controls

The device uses the proprietary FlexScan3D software and operates through a plugged computer. The program ensures fast data capture and features advanced post-processing capabilities. It also includes basic quality inspection measurement tools for deviation analysis.
