PowerSpec 3D Pro 2 is a closed-frame, dual-extrusion 3D printer. It is a low-priced alternative to the well-known MakerBot Replicator 2X. Targeted to makers, designers, engineers, hobbyists, and innovators, this 3D printing machine features a rugged, metal case. It is stable and reliable and provides top-notch results. It comes mostly assembled, you’ll only need to assemble the acrylic door and hood.
Able to print with both PLA, ABS and PVA soluble filaments, the dual extruders allow printing with two materials simultaneously. This means you can produce multicolored and multi-materials objects in one go. The PowerSpec 3D Pro 2 includes an aviation-grade, ultra-flat print bed, which ensures high durability and stability. The insulated chamber keeps the printing temperature constant while an active fan cooling system takes care of PLA prints.
The printer has been used to create DIY personal objects as well as functional tools and replacement parts. Continue reading for an in-depth review.
Some makers decided to 3D print their own multiplayer board game. PowerSpec 3D Pro 2 multi-material printing capability allowed the creation of a 3D Settlers of Catan set.

The PowerSpec 3D Pro 2 is an FDM multi-material 3D printer that can print layers at 100 microns. The surface finish is not as smooth as you get with the more expensive printers but is more than enough for prototyping and household use. The ultra-flat bed and the enclosed chamber allow for reliable and reproducible prints. By using dissolvable filaments, the printer enables hands-free post-processing.

The print head runs on rods with linear bearings, making the design more simple, lightweight and effective, all characteristics that are desirable in a 3D printer.
PowerSpec 3D Pro 2 prints with ABS, PLA, PVA and other materials.
The extruder comes with a fan for printing with PLA-type materials. By cooling the model down, it reduces warping, stringing and, generally, makes for higher quality prints.
For example, this Super Mario has been printed with PLA at 200-micron resolution.

Unlike many FDM printers, the PowerSpec 3D Pro 2 has a heated print bed and closed print chamber, which means it can reliably print with ABS-type materials.

The PowerSpec 3D Pro 2 prints with 1.75 mm filament, providing you with a wide choice of materials.
The build area of 8.9 x 5.7 x 5.9 inches (226 x 145 x 150 mm) lets you print a range of small-to-medium, multi-material parts in one piece. Larger models can be printed in parts and then assembled.
The printer is controlled via PC or the built-in key-operated LCD interface.
3D models can be printed from a USB-tethered computer or via an SD card (standalone printing)
The printer works with the open-source ReplicatorG0040 software. It works with STL, OBJ and G-Code 3D models. The software is available for Windows.
