Print quality

The UP Mini is an FDM 3D printer that can print layers at 200 microns. The surface finish is not as smooth as you get with the more expensive printers, but is more than enough for prototyping and household use.

Look at this model. One maker printed the Mexican sugar skull cat using the UP Mini 2 3D printer. As you can see, even if the machine is capable of printing models at 200 microns, still there are many interesting applications for it.

The UP Mini 2 has a 0.4 mm nozzle, giving you the best balance between speed and detail. Have a look at the example below. Detailing is high and the model looks excellent.

The print head runs on rods with linear bearings, making the design more simple, lightweight and effective, all characteristics that are desirable in a 3D printer.

UP Mini 2 prints with ABS, PLA and other materials.

The extruder comes with a fan for printing with PLA-type materials. By cooling the model down, it reduces warping, stringing and, generally, makes for higher quality prints.

Unlike many FDM printers, the UP Mini has a heated print bed and closed print chamber, which means it can reliably print with ABS-type materials.

As an example, one guy printed and then assembled the Longclaw Sword from ‘The Game of Thrones’.

The UP Mini 2 prints with 1.75 mm filament, providing you with a wide choice of materials.

Build volume

The build area of 4.7 x 4.7 x 4.7 inches (120 x 120 x 120 mm) is sufficient for many domestic prints. Otherwise, print a model in parts and then glue it together. Do you remember the sword in the example above? Each piece was printed, marked, test fitted and then finally stuck together using an ABS plastic glue.
