The Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus is a revised edition of the popular Wanhao Duplicator i3. The main difference is that the separate control box has been replaced for a built-in touchscreen display. Not only is it more convenient, this extra addition makes the printer less prone to vibrations.
The printer is equipped with one extruder with a 0.4 mm nozzle, a heated build platform. The build volume is 200x200x180 mm. There are 3 sliding bearings on the extruder. This increases the stability of printing. Thanks to this addition, it is now possible to avoid unwanted vibrations of the extruder during operation.
It’s been used to print a wide variety of models, including phone accessories, house drawers and luggage wheels. Continue reading for a full review.

Here’s a cool replacement of a broken luggage wheel. And it actually works!
The Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus is an FDM 3D printer that can print layers at 100 microns. The surface finish is not as smooth as you get with the more expensive printers, but is more than enough for prototyping and household use.
The printer has a 0.4 mm nozzle, giving you the best balance between speed and detail. For example, see this model of the infamous Millennium Falcon.

The print head runs on rods with linear bearings, making the design more simple, lightweight and effective, all characteristics that are desirable in a 3D printer. Best of all, the printer has a sturdy metal frame which reduces vibrations, and with the addition of a new touchscreen takes even more space, enhancing this countereffect.
Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus prints with ABS, PLA, HIPS, PVA and other materials.
Here’s the comparison between the 3 models when printing with PLA:
We don’t see any notable differences, but we should point out that the fan became larger, reducing the chances of warping.
The Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus has a heated print bed, which makes it suitable for printing with ABS-type materials. Again here’s the comparison between the 3 models, using the Benchy test:
The Plus version looks more smooth. The only problem you might run into is installing an enclosed print chamber. This is something we certainly recommend since you want to protect your prints from drafts. With the new touchscreen this might be more difficult to accomplish, but is certainly possible.
The Wanhao Duplicator i3 cannot print high-temperature materials like PEEK, ABS/PC, PEI, carbon fiber or glass fiber. To print with these materials the extruder temperature must exceed 572°F (300°C), whereas the extruder on the Wanhao Duplicator i3 has a maximum temperature of 500°F (260 °C).
The Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus prints with 1.75 mm filament, providing you with a wide choice of materials. For example, look at this set of 3D-printed drawers:

It was printed using PLA plastic that contains wood fibres. This gave the print the necessary rough look and feel.
The build area is 7.8 x 7.8 x 7.0 inches (200 x 200 x 180 mm). Larger models can be printed in parts and then be assembled using acetone (for ABS) or glue (for PLA).
But in some cases it’s best to make them assemblable by design. For example, look at this Lego project. All parts can be attached together, creating a huge Lego figure.

The printer is controlled via PC or the built-in LCD interface. The touchscreen is very intuitive. If in the past, it could take a while, looking for the necessary item on the menu, now almost anything can be done with just a few taps.
Models can be printed from computer via an SD card or USB.
Open source software remains an essential part of the Wanhao ecosystem. Users can use the Wanhao edition of Cura (which is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux), but are also welcome to use other software packages.

Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus is available in black color. Its stylish look makes it ideal for both home and professional use. The printer dimensions are 15.7 x 16.1 x 15.7 inches (400 x 410 x 400 mm). It weighs 22 lbs (10 kg). The spool holder is mounted on the top of the 3D printer.
The price of the Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus is $399.00, which is reasonable considering its functionality.
