The Bondtech BMG extruder is a powerful filament feeder designed for smooth and consistent 3D printing. It features the manufacturer’s celebrated dual-drive technology that provides increased performance thanks to CNC-machined hardened steel drive gears for maximum filament grip and efficient processing of abrasive materials. Due to its flexible design, the BMG can reliably operate in both Bowden and Direct Drive setups.
Being a lightweight, easy to use, and highly adaptable extrusion system, the Bondtech BMG boasts a gearing ratio of 3:1 making it a compact powerhouse for a wide scope of applications. It is equally great for high-resolution prints with small nozzles and high-flow projects with bigger ones providing remarkable pushing power and fast retractions.
Apart from the standard variant, the BMG extruder comes in two other versions, namely BMG-M and BMG-X2-M, which are optimized for the Slice Engineering Mosquito hotends. Also, there is a Prusa i3 MK3S upgrade kit available. The desired options can be selected in the Add-ons and Extras menu. To find out more about them, check out the sections below.
Due to innovative design, enhanced performance, and high integration capabilities, the Bondtech BMG extruder will become a game-changing 3D printing tool for hobbyist makers, corporate professionals, and full-blown manufacturers.
The Bondtech BMG extruder utilizes an internal gearing ratio of 3:1 in combination with precise nickel-coated hardened steel drive gears to achieve increased filament grip and responsive retractions. Regardless of nozzle size and application, the user gets streamlined material loading and unloading.
Bondtech’s unique dual-drive technology ensures uninterrupted filament flow without risk of grinding or slipping in even the most demanding conditions, with no damage to the thread.
To reduce the chance of filament misfeed at increased back-pressure, the filament path is fully guided throughout the extruder body, maintaining tight tolerances to the drive gears. The same goes for dealing with highly flexible filaments.
To make the BMG extruder as durable and reliable as possible, Bondtech uses the housing parts that are professionally printed with nylon for maximum strength, precision, and higher temperature resistance.
The BMG extruder effectively works with all types of materials, from slippery nylons and soft TPU/TPE filaments to highly rigid and brittle carbon-filled materials. The device supports only 1.75 mm filament, but it has been successfully tested for filaments ranging from 1.5 mm up to 2.0 mm in diameter, providing high reliability regardless of the material used.
Thanks to the precise thumbscrew tensioner, it is possible to fine-tune the pressure exerted by the drive gears onto the filament according to the user’s preferences. Thus, one can optimize it for any type of the material used.
With the BMG extruder, material changes can be performed in no time due to the quick-release lever. To load filament, simply keep the lever activated and insert the new material.
Although the BMG extruder is delivered without a motor and mounts, it fits any Nema17 stepper motor with a standard 5 mm shaft. The device can be used in both direct drive and bowden setups, which provides the flexibility to choose what works best for your application. In addition, the BMG features an integrated hotend retention method compatible with the E3D V6 hotends and others using a standard groove mount. This allows mounting a hotend in a simple, secure, and wobble-free way, by means of just two bolts.
Like the original, the Bondtech BMG-M extruder combines high performance and resolution with low weight. It offers all the mentioned benefits of the standard version, including Bondtech’s proven dual-drive technology for efficient material feeding.
The main difference is that the BMG-M extruder is optimized for the Mosquito and Mosquito Magnum hotends from Slice Engineering. With an integrated torque lock system, this version provides a strong interface and easy nozzle change.
The Bondtech BMG-X2-M extruder is a dual version of the BMG-M that is dedicated to be used with the Slice Engineering Mosquito, Mosquito Magnum, and Mosquito Magnum+ hotends. It has a C-C distance of 15 mm. The included high-power Nema17 pancake motors provide high torque while keeping the device light and compact. As for ALU mounts, hotends, heaters, thermistors, and their cables, these parts are not included in the package.
