The Modix MAMA-XL3000 (Modular Additive Manufacturing Assembler) is a professional large-format self-assembly 3D printer designed to meet the growing demand for massive, high-precision parts. With a generous print volume of 3000 x 1000 x 1000 mm, the machine is perfect for industries requiring large, complex parts with minimal post-processing. Thanks to the high-speed Modix Griffin Ultra filament extruder, the MAMA-XL3000 is capable of printing 500g of material per hour, significantly boosting print speeds and reducing production costs. With the MAMA-XL3000, you can print large objects in hours, not days.

Starting as a filament-only 3D printer, the Modix MAMA-XL3000 is designed with future flexibility in mind. Soon, it will be available in a dual configuration, allowing users to switch between filament and pellet extrusion, just like the flagship model. This dual-material capability opens up a range of possibilities, providing both the precision of filament printing and the cost-efficiency and speed of pellet extrusion for large-scale applications. The high-performance DYZE Design Pulsar pellet extruder can be easily installed in place of the default filament print head, allowing the users to enjoy the best of both worlds.

The key differentiator of the Modix MAMA-XL3000 is its static bed design. Unlike the MAMA-1700 model, where the print bed moves along the Z-axis, the XL3000’s print bed remains stationary, while the extruder head moves along all three axes (X, Y, and Z). This design ensures superior stability, leading to improved print quality, especially for tall and intricate models, while also simplifying maintenance and calibration.

In addition, the MAMA-XL3000 printer is powered by a sturdy modular construction composed of 8080 aluminum profiles and an industrial-grade motion system with closed loop NEMA-23 motors. The PEI-coated heated bed (up to 120 °C) with 5 independent heating zones alongside the machine’s enclosed heated chamber (60 °C) and the maximum extruder temperature of 450 °C provide reliable high-temperature printing with a wide range of standard and specialized materials.

To ensure high print quality, repeatability and performance, the Modix MAMA-XL3000 is engineered with industrial-grade premium components, such as the electronic controller Duet 6HC enabling completely automated calibration, optical end-stop switches for higher accuracy and repeatability, improved PTFE tube and wires management for smooth and convenient maintenance, built-in crash detector for additional safety, several integrated emergency stop buttons ensuring immediate response, and Wi-Fi connectivity for remote control. Furthermore, the machine benefits from the built-in filament sensor that keeps track of potential clogging and material run-out.

Committed to the company policy, the Modix MAMA-XL3000 can be easily personalized and enhanced in functionalities. The printer supports a variety of optional add-ons, such as an advanced air filter system, different nozzle sizes, IDEX (Independent Dual Extruder) module (coming soon), and more. With the right upgrades, you will get an industrial workhorse at a good price. With its future-ready dual material system and enhanced bed stability, the Modix MAMA-XL3000 empowers businesses to innovate faster, reduce costs, and take on projects that were previously out of reach.

Due to its industrial-grade components, advanced motion systems, and superior heat management, the machine is engineered for professional applications, including automotive prototyping, aerospace, architecture, and large-format product design. Whether you need to create prototypes or functional parts, the MAMA-XL3000 ensures reliable, consistent results with excellent layer adhesion and minimal distortion, even at its largest scale.

Print quality

The Modix MAMA-XL3000 is an FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) 3D printer that can print layers at 600 micron. This way one can produce parts with relatively smooth exterior surfaces, which is more than enough for most applications of life-size models.

Due to the improved closed loop NEMA-23 motors (compared to NEMA-17 motors for the Modix V3 3D printers), the MAMA-XL3000 model provides the accelerated travel speed of up to 350 mm/s and maximum printing speed of up to 250 mm/s.

As a filament-only 3D printing solution, the Modix MAMA-XL3000 model features a high-flow filament extruder — Griffin Ultra hotend by Modix. It is capable of printing thick layers with a flow rate of 160 mm³/s and build speed of up to 500 g of material per hour. This enables rapid production of impressively large objects, while significantly reducing total print times.

Being a modular system with future upgradeability in mind, the Modix MAMA-XL3000 will be soon equipped with the — a high-performance pellet extruder designed for industrial-scale 3D printing. Introduced back in 2018, this pellet extruder boasts a track record of reliability and experience. The key features of the DYZE Design Pulsar Pellet Extruder include:

  1. High Flow Rate: Capable of delivering a flow rate of up to 500 mm³/s, Pulsar enables printing of large-scale objects at speeds of up to 3 kg per hour.
  2. Material Versatility: Pulsar supports a wide range of materials including PLA, ABS, TPE, TPU, PVA, HIPS, PC, PETG, Nylon, and composites such as wood, glass fiber, and carbon fiber filled pellets. It also accommodates recycled materials, enhancing the printer’s sustainability.
  3. Precision and Reliability: The DYZE Design extruder is built with precision engineering to ensure consistent and reliable extrusion, crucial for industrial applications.
  4. Ease of Maintenance: Pulsar is designed for easy maintenance, reducing downtime and operational costs.
  5. Effective Cooling: The DYZE Pulsar pellet extruder comes with a water-cooled design and 4 part cooling fans for better print quality.

The DYZE Design Pulsar Pellet Extruder will offer nozzles from 1 mm to 5 mm in diameter and several screws to meet various pellet 3D printing needs, such as furniture and various commercial products.

Built with a reinforced frame made of strong 8080 mm profiles, the Modix MAMA-XL3000 is capable of printing well even without the enclosure, although this would hardly be preferable, as the included enclosure helps maintain the internal ambient temperature of the heated build chamber. In addition, the print bed is attached to the HIWIN rails installed on the Z profiles, which stabilizes the entire frame during the printing process.

The Modix MAMA series supports the additional for multi-material printing of complex internal geometries (will be available soon). This extreme flexibility provides the user with wider design capabilities.

Materials

The Modix MAMA-XL3000 is currently a filament-only 3D printer with future material flexibility in mind. Due to its high-temperature capabilities, including a heated build plate (120 °C) and build chamber (60 °C), the MAMA-XL3000 can print with a wide range of filaments. The machine supports printing with PLA, ABS, TPE, TPU, PVA, HIPS, PC, PETG, Nylon (PA), composites, such as PETG-CF (Carbon Fiber) and PETG-GF (Glass Fiber), wood, glass and carbon fiber filled materials as well as recycled options from almost any manufacturer.

Pellet printing (available in the future) provides the user with a possibility of rapid material change, allowing for the combination of different plastics in a single project. Printing with pellets, especially made of recycled plastics, is not only faster but also more efficient in terms of material cost and post-processing (sanding, drilling, etc.). For example, this 1.4 m mold (7 kg) was printed with wood-filled pellets in just 5 hours.

Nozzle – 3 mm, extrusion width – 4 mm, layer height – 2 mm

For more complex projects, one can use the optional (ETA — Q1/2025). With the option to use a secondary print head, one can print with a combination of pellet and pellet or pellet with filament. This setup is particularly advantageous for support structures, as water-soluble filament can be used for easy post-processing and support removal. This capability allows for the creation of complex internal geometries and cavities, enhancing design flexibility and reducing the time and effort required for post-processing.

Similar to the Modix V4 3D printers, the MAMA-XL3000 model comes with a default clog detector that can easily detect material run-out, under-extrusion, and hotend clogs. This allows the user to quickly fix the problem and avoid negative impact on the quality of the printed items.

Build volume

The enormous build area of 118.1 x 39.4 x 39.4 in (3000 x 1000 x 1000 mm) lets you print just about anything. Thanks to its incredible width, the Modix MAMA-XL3000 eliminates the need for assembling parts from multiple smaller prints. By enabling printing of objects up to 3 m wide or tall, the machine drastically reduces the time spent on gluing and assembly, leading to stronger, seamless final products.
