The Polyga Compact S5 Macro is a professional 3D scanner with industrial-grade functionality. It boasts impressive scan speed, high-resolution cameras with color photo texture support providing extremely detailed and realistic outputs, advanced convenience and ease of use. As a successor of Polyga’s currently discontinued small field of view Compact C504 3D scanner, the S5 Macro provides the same level of accuracy of 5 microns with a much larger FOV, serving as a drop-in replacement for both the C504 and C506 models.

The Compact S5 Macro is an industry-ready 3D scanner that enables engineers to digitize parts from 1 to 5 cm in size and generate high-resolution 3D scans 5 times faster than before, capturing 5 million+ points in 0.86 seconds. Thanks to advanced color capturing technology, one can experience vibrant, true-to-life reproductions. More powerful features are accessible through the software SDK (SBSDK) suite, which makes for simplified integration of the scanner into industrial systems.

To ensure stable and efficient operation in demanding environments, the S5 Macro 3D scanner is built from aluminum alloy with a scratch-resistant finish. Furthermore, the device provides secure port connections with reliable locking mechanisms, multi-sensor setup, multi-point mounting options, and external triggers for seamless integration in industrial automation and robotics. Another thoughtful feature is automated scanning with a tripod and rotary table (available as optional add-ons), which does not require additional calibration.

The supplied FlexScan3D scanning software is an industry-proven app that has an intuitive interface and manifold automated tools to ensure fast and quality data acquisition. It fits both new and seasoned users.

With the results verified by NIST-calibrated artifacts, every Polyga Compact S5 Macro comes pre-calibrated and benchmarked following VDI/VDE standards making it one of the most reliable and long-lasting 3D scanners in its class.

Considering all the highlighted characteristics, the Polyga Compact S5 Macro 3D scanner makes a perfect solution for any companies, manufacturers, educational institutions, visual effect studios, and research labs that need accurate and consistent 3D scan data. The device is capable of scanning a wide variety of small-to-medium objects for applications in multiple spheres including:

  • Manufacturing & Reverse Engineering;
  • Cultural Heritage Preservation;
  • Medical & Dental;
  • 3D Printing & Rapid Prototyping;

Scan accuracy

The Polyga Compact S5 Macro 3D scanner is engineered with a premium-quality LED projector and two high-resolution 5 MP cameras that enable it to yield up to 5 million points per scan with an accuracy of up to 5 microns and a point-to-point distance of 0.021 mm.

Each Compact S5 Macro scanner is calibrated and tested with NIST certified artifacts to ensure that every 3D scan returns metrology-grade results. Backed by VDI/VDE calibration standards, the device stands out for its remarkable precision and meets rigorous accuracy benchmarks.

The Polyga Compact S5 Macro guarantees high quality, detail and reliability of the captured 3D scan data as well as fewer rescans, which proves to be time- and cost-efficient in the long run.

In contrast to the previous iteration of the Polyga small field of view 3D scanner series, the Compact S5 Macro model is able to capture high-quality color scans with realistic textures without compromising on scan accuracy and geometry detail. Using a newly developed color acquisition method, one can get the advantages of both color and monochrome models combined in a single scanner.

Color scans are useful for the following spheres of application:

  • Visual effects and gaming for 3D modeling;
  • 3D inspection where color correctness of a product is important;
  • 3D printing objects in color;
  • Documenting and archiving objects in color;
  • Capturing design intent of an object for reverse engineering where color information is crucial to the design.

Scan volume

The Polyga Compact S5 Macro features two scanning areas for rendering workpieces of different sizes. Specifically, the field of view stands at 39 x 44 and 44 x 48 mm, with a standoff distance of 130–160 mm. The device can effectively capture objects from 10 to 50 mm in size, such as small mechanical gears, screws, hardware parts, small figurines, jewelry, PCB boards, and more.

Scanner controls and software

The Polyga Compact S5 Macro 3D scanner operates through a plugged computer and uses the proprietary FlexScan3D software. The program ensures rapid data acquisition and features high-processing speed as well as advanced post-processing capabilities. It delivers a really smooth and responsive 3D scanning experience and even includes basic quality inspection measurement tools for deviation analysis.

The Compact S5 Macro model features USB 3.0 connectivity and allows simultaneous control of multiple scanners from a single PC. By easily integrating several devices at once, the user can enjoy an expanded field of view. Multi-point mounting offers secure attachments for industrial applications, such as robotic arms, linear motion, and production environments. Due to external triggers and locking USB connectors, the Polyga Compact S5 Macro provides seamless integration and reliable automation for industrial environments.

The Compact S5 Macro is also capable of quickly transforming into a plug-and-play stationary device by mounting it on a tripod. With an optional rotary table, one gets access to fully automated 3D scanning.

Similar to other Polyga devices, the S5 Macro model is powered by FlexScan3D — a dedicated program for the manufacturer’s professional scanners. FlexScan3D software provides all the necessary tools for reproducing high-resolution, accurate 3D scans directly from real-world objects. The software includes a rich set of powerful measurement and inspection tools for industrial needs. It also lets you take control of multiple 3D scanners through an easy-to-use interface.

The Polyga Compact S5 Macro supports the most common file formats: PLY, OBJ, STL, ASC, FBX, and 3D3. Exporting 3D models in OBJ and STL formats, one can transfer files to their preferred 3D printing software for printing.

In addition, Polyga offers PointKit Scan — a powerful and easy-to-use Windows application designed to capture and efficiently transform 3D scan data from 3D scanners. PointKit Scan has rich post-processing tools for aligning and merging the scans into a full digital 3D model, such as point cloud process, mesh alignment, analysis and collaboration on one software platform.

Furthermore, Polyga’s software SDK (SBSDK) suite allows users to develop their own scanning apps and directly communicate and control the Compact S5 Macro using C++, C#, or Command line. This enables easy integration of the Compact S5 Macro 3D scanner into industrial automation or robotics systems.
