The QIDI Box from QIDI Tech is a 4-channel automated filament management system that maintains materials at 65°C maximum temperature rated for 245W power consumption. The system processes 1.75mm diameter filaments through sealed chambers with real-time temperature and humidity monitoring, delivering continuous material supply to compatible 3D printers such as and models.

The QIDI filament box integrates 4x 42-stepper motors with NFC recognition technology for automatic parameter configuration, while hardened steel dual-gear mechanisms handle composite materials including carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastics with tensile strengths exceeding 122 GPa. Active drying operates simultaneously during printing cycles, maintaining optimal moisture levels for hygroscopic materials like PA and PETG. Expandable architecture supports up to 16 material channels through chained unit configuration, with automated material switching preventing print failures during extended production cycles.

Professional prototyping workshops deploy the QIDI Box system for creating functional multi-material assemblies, such as robotic grippers combining rigid ABS frames with flexible TPU gaskets within single print jobs using the 4-channel automated switching system. Small-scale manufacturing facilities utilize the continuous 65°C drying capability to maintain PA (Nylon) and PETG filaments below 0.1% moisture content during overnight production runs. Educational makerspaces implement the system for teaching multi-material 3D printing design principles through color-coded anatomical models and functional prototypes, with the NFC recognition feature eliminating manual parameter configuration for student workflows.

Key features

The QIDI Box operates through 4x 42-stepper motors delivering independent control across four filament channels, with hardened steel dual-gear mechanisms generating grip force distribution over larger surface area preventing filament grinding. Individual LED indicators provide real-time visual status for each of the four filament channels, enabling immediate detection of material flow interruptions or feed path obstructions.

Active filament drying maintains 65°C maximum temperature within sealed chambers equipped with real-time temperature and humidity sensors displaying current conditions on integrated screens and QIDI Studio software interfaces.

The system prevents moisture-induced layer delamination through continuous drying during printing operations, maintaining PA (Nylon) and PETG below critical moisture thresholds.

NFC intelligent recognition automatically configures printing parameters through embedded chip detection, eliminating manual temperature and flow rate adjustments for compatible QIDI filaments.

The system integrates smart PTC fuses with dual temperature sensors providing automatic power cutoff when abnormal thermal conditions exceed safety thresholds.

Expandable architecture supports up to 16 material channels through four-unit chaining using QIDI BOX HUB signal coordination, with each unit communicating material switching commands and monitoring data across the networked array. The system enables automated material changeover during print failures through run-out detection, tangle monitoring, and clog identification systems preventing production interruptions during extended manufacturing cycles.

Materials

The QIDI Box processes 1.75mm diameter filaments across 17 compatible material types, including 10 standard thermoplastics (PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, PET, PA, PC, PP, POM, HIPS) and 5 composite variants (ABS-CF/GF, PLA-CF/GF, PETG-CF/GF, PPS-CF, PET-CF/GF) designed for engineering applications. The hardened steel dual-gear system prevents premature wear from abrasive fiber content during composite extrusion operations.

Soluble support materials include dried PVA and BVOH (Butenediol Vinyl Alcohol) operating under strict moisture control requirements below 35% relative humidity for PVA and 45% for BVOH to prevent hydrolysis degradation. The 65°C active drying system maintains these hygroscopic materials in printable condition, as moisture exposure above critical thresholds renders them unusable due to bubble formation during thermal processing. In addition, the QIDI Box enables one-step snap-away support removal.

Material restrictions encompass 5 specific exclusions: damp PVA/BVOH (moisture compromised), TPE (too soft), generic TPU (inconsistent properties), TPU 95A (excessive flexibility), and QIDI PAHT-CF (excessive rigidity). Spool compatibility requires plastic construction with 50–72mm width and 195–202mm diameter specifications, with cardboard spools requiring optional adapter rings for mechanical compatibility with the rotation bearing system.

Look and feel

The QIDI Box uses ABS/PC housing to withstand 245W continuous operation and maintains internal temperatures up to 65°C within its 357 x 300 x 234 mm footprint and 4.35 kg weight for both stability and portability. A sealed chamber with manual exhaust vents and four LED status lights delivers immediate feedback on each 1.75 mm filament channel, while a removable top cover and transparent window enable uninterrupted spool changes and tangle detection during prints.

The system interfaces with QIDI Studio and a local HUB display for live monitoring of temperature, humidity, and material usage, with four stepper-driven gates switching filaments at <0.5 s intervals and safety features — including PTC fuses and automatic thermal cutoff — preventing overheating during unattended 16-channel operations.

Price of the QIDI Box 16-color multi-material system

The price for the QIDI Box is $228.00, which is reasonable considering its hardened-steel dual-gear extrusion system, integrated active drying with real-time humidity control, and NFC intelligent filament recognition.
