The EinScan-SP (Platinum) is a desktop 3D scanner manufactured by Shining 3D. It is a Structured Light Scanner equipped with a white light source and two monochrome cameras. It can capture images both with or without color. This accurate scanner has a small footprint, making it a perfect fit for any type of desk, let alone its futuristic outlook.

The scanner features a turntable with a heavy-duty calibration board. The auto-calibration features and the two scan modes (fixed and auto) provide high accuracy, fast scanning speed, and versatility. The SP version is twice as fast as its low-end counterpart, the , since it can complete a single scan in 4 seconds and a 360-degree auto scan in just 1 minute. Automatic scans take less than 45 seconds to complete, which is many times faster than similar desktop 3D scanners in the market with turntable scans. Besides, it is much more precise and offers an enlarged scan area. The auto-meshing to watertight 3D printable models makes it compatible with a variety of 3D printers providing high-quality, directly printable 3D data as well as API access service for machines of any brand.

The EinScan-SP V2 is the upgraded version of the original EinScan-SP scanner. To find out more about their differences, please check out the "What's new in V2" section.

What's new in V2

When it comes to the EinScan-SP V2 3D scanner, there are some handy upgrades compared to its predecessor. Let's take a look at these points.

Scan speed

The major change for the SP V2 is the scanning speed. The table below shows how impressive it is when scanning a clay statue with the dimensions about 40 x 40 x 70 mm, especially in contrast with the first model:

Power button

The power button of the EinScan-SP V2 has been changed from the touchscreen button to a physical one for more convenient use.

USB port

The original USB 2.0 port has also been upgraded to 3.0.

User experience

Most notably, EinScan-SP V2 provides exceptional data quality alongside overall improved characteristics.

Scan accuracy

The EinScan-SP is a professional desktop 3D scanner with a single shot accuracy of below 0.05 mm. It provides high resolution ensured by its automatic calibration process. Thus, it can capture the real geometry of an object with fine detail producing top-quality 3D data. It adopts multiple ways of alignment (markers, turntable markers, feature, and manual) to ensure optimal scanning quality.

Scan volume

The EinScan-SP operates according to the scanning mode selected. Specifically, the Turntable Fixed Scan mode supports a scan area of 1.2 x 1.2 x 1.2 m, while the auto mode has a smaller area of 20 x 20 x 20 cm.

Scanning tips

Overall tips:

  • Apply a matte spray to easily scan dark, shiny, and transparent objects
  • Scan with a dark background
  • Use correct scanner settings
  • Fine-tune your scanner
  • Create a controlled environment
  • Avoid scanning moving objects

The Auto Scan Mode is designed for:

  • Objects larger than 30*30*30 mm (1.2*1.2*1.2 in)
  • Objects smaller than 200*200*200 mm (7.9*7.9*7.9 in)
  • Object weighing less than 5 kg (11 lbs)

The Fixed Scan Mode is designed for:

  • Scanning large and heavy objects that aren’t suitable for the turntable

Scanner controls

The EinScan-SP is a lightweight desktop 3D scanner that operates through a plugged computer. The scanner has been integrated with an intuitive UI for quick and effortless scanning sessions.

Software

The EinScan-SP comes with an incredibly powerful proprietary software solution EXScan S that offers a plethora of post-processing features. For instance, it can readjust data coordinates, auto-fill holes, smoothen or sharpen a model, and much more. Additionally, you can one-click upload your 3D scans to various cloud-based solutions to share it with anyone.

For reverse engineering purposes, one can use Solid Edge SHINING 3D Edition supplied with the scanner.
