The Sinterit PBT Optimal is a polybutylene terephthalate powder specifically designed for selective laser sintering (SLS) 3D printing without nitrogen requirements. This black material has precisely measured physical characteristics: granulation distribution of 37 μm (D10), 57 μm (D50), and 86 μm (D90), bulk density of 500–600 kg/m³, and printout density of 1.238–1.284 g/cm³. PBT Optimal exhibits low water absorption rates between 0.49–0.122% under standardized testing conditions (PN-EN ISO 62:2008). The material delivers high rigidity, excellent detailing, electronic insulation, and resistance to solvents. These properties establish the PBT powder as a technical-grade material for both prototyping and end-use applications requiring high precision and mechanical strength.
Fresh powder is used ONLY to refresh powder properties lost during the sintering process.
PBT Optimal delivers exceptional mechanical properties documented through standardized testing protocols. The material achieves tensile strength values of 49.04 MPa in X direction and 48.28 MPa in Y direction (PN-EN ISO 527-1:2012), demonstrating excellent isotropy. It provides high stiffness with tensile modulus values of 2718 MPa (X) and 2663 MPa (Y), while maintaining limited elongation at break of 2.55% (X) and 2.62% (Y). Impact strength reaches 9.18 kJ/m² (X) and 11.12 kJ/m² (Y). PBT Optimal has a 20% refresh ratio*, requiring only 20% fresh powder addition to used powder between print jobs. This low refresh rate creates a direct cost advantage, making it "the most economical per print in compact SLS." This makes for cost-efficiency of the material, as the minimum amount of needed fresh powder is automatically calculated by Sinterit software after each print job and shown on the printer screen after the print job is finished.
*Refresh ratio is the minimum amount of fresh powder needed in a mixture of material used in an SLS 3D printer. Lower refresh ratio means better cost-efficiency due to the lower amount of refreshing powder required.
PBT Optimal serves 6 primary application categories: cost-effective prototyping, thermoforming molds, medical and dental applications, electrical and electronic components, electronic enclosures, and rigid tooling components. The material’s high rigidity, excellent detailing, and additional advantageous properties such as electronic insulation and resistance to solvents make it ideal for functional and technical applications. Its efficient reproduction of intricate details and good mechanical properties make it particularly suitable for parts requiring high precision and dimensional stability. For manufacturing environments, PBT Optimal’s chemical resistance and mechanical strength establish it as an ideal choice for production environments requiring precise, durable parts with excellent detail reproduction. It is one of the strongest and most versatile materials available on the powder market dedicated to SLS printing technology.
This material is compatible with the Sinterit Lisa X SLS 3D printer. Final part properties may vary based on printed part design, print orientation and material handling.
The Sinterit PBT Optimal FRESH powder is sold in 6kg metal containers for safe and convenient transportation.
