The Mosquito by Slice Engineering is a modular, high-performance all-metal hotend designed with advanced adaptability, precise temperature control, and ease of use in mind. Its remarkable thermal efficiency and reliable structure with patented features, such as effortless one-handed nozzle change, make the Mosquito a powerful solution against heat creep issues, such as jamming, poor heat control, etc. It is available in the Standard and Bundle versions that can be selected in the Add-ons and Extras menu.

Alongside enhanced 3D printing precision, various mount options, and improved noise reduction, the Mosquito hotend features advanced high-temperature capacity with heating up to 500 °C. This covers a full scope of currently available thermoplastics, including PEEK, Ultem (PEI), ASA, PC, Nylon, and more.

The device’s flexible construction allows it to fit a wide range of 3D printers with an adapter required in certain cases. If you are unsure about your 3D printer model, please contact us to find the appropriate solution. Also, due to the advanced heat conduction, you can install the Mosquito with a self-3D-printed adapter to diversify mounting options available.

Generally, it is recommended to use RepRap style nozzles for the Mosquito hotend (M6 x 1.0 threads with a 7 mm thread length and 12.5 mm overall length).

The constituent parts of the Mosquito hotend by Slice Engineering.

Both Mosquito and hotend series from Slice Engineering share the manufacturer’s proprietary Bimetallic Heat Break technology that implies efficient heat conduction and diffusion. As such, they are designed for high-performance applications due to the ability to effectively eliminate heat creep.

However, they are different in all other aspects. The Copperhead is a budget-friendly, traditional-style hotend aimed at improved quality of high-temperature 3D printing. As for the Mosquito devices, they boast innovative design with a protective roll cage around 85% thermally efficient heat break making for cold, one handed nozzle changes. Despite their differences, both options provide better printing experience, so one can choose any depending on their needs.

Highlights

The Mosquito hotend bundle kit.

Reliable against heat creep

Similar to the popular Copperhead hotend by Slice Engineering, the Mosquito makes use of the manufacturer’s innovative technology — Bimetallic Heat Break. It involves the application of the lightweight, adaptable heat break produced from ultrathin, cold-worked stainless steel surgical tubing and sheathed in hardened copper alloy. Thus, the Mosquito hotend conducts 85% less heat than a standard threaded heat break, which allows it to effectively prevent heat creep, reduce jamming, and improve printing resolution.

Compact and lightweight design

Due to a compact, reasonably organized structure, the Mosquito provides more space compared to traditional hotends. So, by installing the device, one gets more vertical build volume, while its low mass leads to maximum X-Y acceleration.

Simple one-handed nozzle change

With its rigid construction, the Mosquito hotend ensures enhanced protection of the heat break from crashes and other abuse. Moreover, the hot block remains completely stationary, which allows for a much faster and easier one-handed nozzle change. With the Mosquito hotend, it takes only 10 seconds to get the right tool for each project.

Wide variety of supported materials

The Mosquito hotend can heat up to 500 °C, which basically allows it to print with all major thermoplastics available on the market.

Universal adaptivity

One of the Mosquito’s notable features is its modularity allowing for wide compatibility. With its rigid, carefully thought-out construction, the device is suitable for the vast majority of FFF/FDM 3D printers offering smooth and quick integration. Also, thanks to its ambidextrous nature and compact size, the Mosquito hotend is great for multi-extrusion systems.

Always ready for use

The device comes with everything one needs to start 3D printing right after receiving the package. Due to the quick installation process, the Slice Engineering Mosquito hotend provides smooth and streamlined user experience.
