The Mosquito Magnum by Slice Engineering is a modular, high-flow all-metal hotend designed with advanced adaptability, precise temperature control, and ease of use in mind. Its remarkable flow rate compared to the original Mosquito, industry-leading thermal efficiency and reliable structure with patented features, such as effortless one-handed nozzle change, make the Mosquito Magnum a powerful solution against heat creep issues, such as jamming, poor heat control, etc. It is available in the Standard, Bundle, and Magnum+ versions that can be selected in the Add-ons and Extras menu.

A general view on the Mosquito Magnum hotend by Slice Engineering.

Alongside enhanced 3D printing precision, various mount options, and improved noise reduction, the Mosquito Magnum hotend features advanced high-temperature capacity with heating up to 500 °C. This covers a full scope of currently available thermoplastics, including PEEK, Ultem (PEI), ASA, PC, Nylon, and more.

The device’s flexible construction allows it to fit virtually any 3D printer with an adapter required in certain cases. If you are unsure about your 3D printer model, please contact us to find the appropriate solution.

Generally, the Mosquito Magnum hotend is compatible with RepRap style nozzles which are characterized by their M6 x 1.0 threads, 7 mm threaded length, and 12.5 mm overall length. The Magnum+ version uses standard-length (12.5 mm) Vanadium and Bridgemaster nozzles for both 1.75 and 2.85 filament sizes. Also, please note that the Bondtech DDX for Creality 3D printers is NOT compatible with the Mosquito Magnum+ hotend.

The Mosquito Magnum+ hotend variation.

Both Mosquito and hotend series from Slice Engineering share the manufacturer’s proprietary Bimetallic Heat Break technology that implies efficient heat conduction and diffusion. As such, they are designed for high-performance applications due to the ability to effectively eliminate heat creep.

However, they are different in all other aspects. The Copperhead is a budget-friendly, traditional-style hotend aimed at improved quality of high-temperature 3D printing. As for the Mosquito devices, they boast innovative design with a protective roll cage around 85% thermally efficient heat break making for cold, one handed nozzle changes. Despite their differences, both options provide better printing experience, so one can choose any depending on their needs.

Highlights

The Mosquito Magnum hotend bundle.

Outstanding print speed

The main advantage of the Mosquito Magnum hotend is its extremely fast flow rate alongside some construction changes. A thermal insulator protects the extended melt zone from the effects of active cooling and radiative heat loss. With a heat transmission rate of 3W/m², it can safely print upwards of 30 mm³/sec without loss of precision inherent to the original Mosquito hotend.

Reliable against heat creep

Similar to the standard model, the Magnum hotend makes use of the manufacturer’s innovative technology — Bimetallic Heat Break. It involves the application of the lightweight, adaptable heat break produced from ultrathin, cold-worked stainless steel surgical tubing and sheathed in hardened copper alloy. Thus, the Mosquito Magnum conducts 85% less heat than a standard threaded heat break, which allows it to effectively prevent heat creep, reduce jamming, and improve printing resolution.

Compact and lightweight design

Due to a compact, reasonably organized structure, the Mosquito Magnum provides more space compared to traditional hotends. So, by installing the device, one gets more vertical build volume, while its low mass leads to maximum X-Y acceleration. With this model, the melt zone is extended proximally upwards to maintain a small form factor.

Simple one-handed nozzle change

With its rigid construction, the Mosquito Magnum hotend ensures enhanced protection of the heat break from crashes and other abuse. Moreover, the hot block remains completely stationary, which allows for a much faster and easier one-handed nozzle change. With the Mosquito Magnum hotend equipped, it takes only 10 seconds to get the right tool for each project.

Wide variety of supported materials

The Mosquito Magnum hotend can heat up to 500 °C, which basically allows it to print with all major materials available on the market, including engineering-grade thermoplastics.

Universal adaptivity

One of the device’s notable features is its modularity allowing for wide compatibility. With its rigid, carefully thought-out construction, the Mosquito Magnum hotend is suitable for the vast majority of FFF/FDM 3D printers offering smooth and quick integration. Also, thanks to its ambidextrous nature and compact size, the Mosquito Magnum hotend is great for multi-extrusion systems.

In addition, one can simultaneously use the original Mosquito and its Magnum counterpart thanks to their same length. Switch between high-flow and high-precision printing in one project!

Upgraded version

The Mosquito Magnum+ is a perfect option for professional and industrial 3D printing applications due to its extended melt zone for faster speed and high flow rate capacity: it is capable of printing up to 88 mm³/s with PLA and up to 91 mm³/s with ABS.

The Mosquito Magnum+ version by Slice Engineering.

Featuring all the other benefits of the Mosquito series, it is thermally optimized and highly configurable at the same time. Enhanced structural strength makes the device ideal for large-format printers and non-planar projects. Being 30% heavier than the original model, the Magnum+ provides 3.5x output with 1.75 or 2.85 filament diameter support. Air, liquid, or conduction-based cooling options as well as expandable heater capacity up to 100W are available.

Always ready for use

The device comes with everything one needs to start 3D printing right after receiving the package. Due to the quick installation process, the Slice Engineering Mosquito Magnum hotend provides smooth and streamlined user experience.
