The Fusion 360 Additive Build Extension expands the additive manufacturing capabilities of Fusion 360 with a set of tools for MPBF 3D printing. The extension allows you to define the 3D printer and set print parameters, as well as automatically arrange parts for printing and create support structures.

The extension provides the opportunity to run an additive process simulation to predict possible print failures and automatically compensate geometries to get the best result. The Additive Build Extension allows for the creation of a hybrid manufacturing environment with the seamless data flow, where you can add subtractive finishing operations to your 3D printed model.

Key features

Large library of 3D printers

The Fusion 360 Additive Build Extension provides a library of the most popular metal powder bed fusion 3D printers from well-known manufacturers. You only need to select your printer model and set the print parameters.

Automatic part placement

The extension tools allow you to arrange and orient parts on the print bed automatically, ensuring efficiency and preventing print failures.

Multiple types of support structures

You can generate about ten different types of support structures. The system will automatically determine where to build supports to optimize material expenditure and avoid model deformation.

This feature allows you to generate a simulation of the 3D printing process to ensure your model will be built correctly.

Associative design and manufacturing data

With the Additive Build Extension you can connect your design data to manufacturing seamlessly. Once you set up manufacturing, Fusion 360 will update as needed when you change the design.

Workflows

  • Create an additive setup, selecting a machine with MPBF capabilities and selecting a print setting.
  • Position the parts on the build platform.
  • Create and assign presets of a print setting.
  • Add support structures, such as volume, bar, or polyline supports.
  • Simulate the additive toolpath.
  • Export the additive build to a 3MF file or another file type.
