Key features

The Nesting & Fabrication extension integrates into the Manufacture and Design workspace in Fusion 360, significantly expanding its functionality by adding the following features:

Advanced arrange

Allows you to arrange objects on multiple sheets and control object orientation allowances.

Nest preparation controls in the Design workspace

Prepares your model for nesting and sets nesting parameters per material for optimal stock usage. Provides the opportunity to specify the types of objects in the design, such as sheet metal, sketches, or selected entities, which you want to include in the nest.

Materials and packaging

Allows setting and managing the materials and packaging you want to use in your nest studies.

Component sources

Sets global nesting defaults for components and adds parts that are not in the current design to your nest.

Nest studies

Creates nest studies with multiple nest alternatives, so that you can preview and arrange the parts.

Nest comparisons

Allows you to configure and view the key metrics, like cost, material usage, and stack size, for cost estimation.

Nest export

Exports sheets to DXF or MSI file formats. DXF (AutoCAD) format is used with a CAM package in AutoCAD to generate toolpaths, or with third-party CAM software. MSI (TruNest) files are compatible with Autodesk's dedicated nesting TruNest software.

Material and packaging presets

A preset is a set of materials and packaging that you can load into your project. This function allows creating, using, and sharing presets of commonly used materials and packaging.

  • In the Study tab, set general properties for your study, such as Job Quantity, Automatically calculate nest, and Automatic manage nest.
  • In the Shape tab, include or exclude shapes from the nest and view their properties.
  • In the Packaging tab, you can view packaging properties and remove packages.
  • In the Global Parameters tab, adjust values such as Nest position and Remnant management.
  • In the Output tab adjust other nest properties, such as Create manufacturing model and Include stock.
  • Click OK to create the nest study.
  • The study and its sheets are added to the Fusion 360 browser.
  • If you need to generate the nest now or later, right-click the nest study node in the browser and select Generate.
