The CraftBot Flow XL is a professional large-bed single extrusion 3D printer designed by CraftUnique. It is the bigger brother of the CraftBot Flow. As part of the brand new CraftBot Flow series, the Flow XL has been designed taking into account all users’ feedback gathered by the company. It relies on the original design of the renowned Craftbot 3 and PLUS 3D printers. Despite its predecessors, the Flow series sports a bunch of thoughtful upgrades. For example, it features renewed metal hotends, a reinforced double-shell steel construction, and a Raspberry-Pi-based motherboard.

This rock-solid single extrusion plug-n-play printer comes pre-assembled. You will get it up and running just after unboxing. It is a tight device with a large print area of 300 x 200 x 500 mm (twice the height of its smaller counterpart). Ideal for both newbies and professionals, the Flow XL provides several quality-of-life features, such as the automatic XY and semi-automatic electronically-aided bed calibrations, the filament detection system, and the pause-and-print option. These functions make for high printing accuracy with a low risk of printing failures.

Durable and reliable, this easy-to-use 3D printer is highly versatile. It can be used for a range of applications in a variety of fields, including product design, rapid manufacturing, and end-use 3D printing. Read on for a deeper review.

All CraftBot 3D printers have been designed for producing high-precision quality parts. These nuts and bolts are just an example of their capability.

Print quality

The CraftBot Flow XL is a professional FDM 3D printer with a large print area. It has a layer resolution of 50 microns and an XYZ accuracy of 12.5x12.5x5 microns. It allows producing parts with smooth surfaces as fast as 200 mm/s. It employs redesigned all-metal hotends, which reduce filament jamming and make for higher printing quality.

The tool head includes a filament dosage monitoring system for smoother extrusion. The pause-and-resume function prevents printing failures due to power outages. It also enables multicolor printing.

The CraftBot Flow XL comes with a single 0.4-mm nozzle, giving you the best balance between speed and detail.

The Z-axis is composed of extruded aluminum profiles. The print head runs on linear rails, which makes printing reliable, fast and precise.

The CraftBot Flow XL 3D printer is equipped with a direct drive single extruder with metal hotends. Its operating nozzle temperature reaches up to 300°C. This lets you print with standard and specialty filaments, including PLA, ABS, PET, Nylon, Carbon-fiber reinforced composites, wood, brass, and many other materials.

The CraftBot XL comes with a heated print bed composed of three different sheets made of metal, tempered glass and Kapton. The plate heats up to 110°C. The upper sheet can be bent to easily remove the prints.

To ensure high reproducibility, we recommend installing an enclosed print chamber. This way the print quality would not be affected by temperature fluctuations as a result of drafts and other factors.

The CraftBot Flow XL comes with an open material system for printing with all types of filaments from any vendor. The filament diameter is 1.75mm.

Build volume

The CraftBot Flow XL has an extended build area of 11.8 x 7.9 x 19.7 inches (300 x 200 x 500 mm), which lets you print large parts or multiple items in a single printing session.

Printer controls

The Flow XL is operated via the fitted 5-inch color touchscreen. The responsive web interface can be easily connected to a computer via the intranet.

The integrated 4GB internal storage enables standalone printing. The built-in camera and the LED status indicator keep you updated about the printing status. Thanks to the Raspberry Pi engine, you can easily upgrade your printer in case of need.

The printer comes bundled with the proprietary CraftWare software but is also compatible with 3rd-party slicing programs. The printer software supports G-code, STL, and OBJ files. It runs on Windows 7 and above, OS X and Linux.
