The Direct Drive DIABLO is a 6-DoF wheeled bipedal robot composed entirely of direct-drive joints. Apart from impressive impact resistance, its flexible yet robust structure provides the machine with superb terrain adaptability, effective self-balance and fast fall-recovery abilities, efficient obstacle avoidance, nearly silent operation, and precisely controlled movement, including small jumps and even moonwalk.
Being an open SDK platform, the DIABLO robot also allows for customization through various add-on modules that can be integrated into its system. Thus, it is possible to expand the scope of DIABLO’s application by installing LiDAR, anti-collision module, GPS, and more.
The Direct Drive DIABLO robot combines a durable yet flexible design, smooth indoor and outdoor navigation due to smart front sensors, efficient power management, and secondary development support, which makes it great for a number of professional-grade applications, such as industrial automation, inspection, R&D projects, business, education, recreation, etc.
Here are just some of potential use scenarios for the DIABLO robot:
The Direct Drive DIABLO features enhanced flexibility and balance of movement. It is driven by 6 M1502D direct-drive robot joints that provide the machine with 6 degrees of freedom, smooth obstacle avoidance, and increased stability on almost any terrain, including slippery and uneven surfaces. Thanks to its stable wheeled design, DIABLO can reach a constant speed of 2 m/s.
Equipped with a high-capacity battery, the robot boasts long-term performance regardless of the operation mode. Thus, in Creeping Mode, it shows advanced energy efficiency when carrying loads up to 80 kg, while in Standing Mode DIABLO moves dexterously when carrying loads up to 4 kg. For details, see the table below.
Standing in an upright position | ≈3 h at an ambient temperature of 25 °C |
Maximum continuous travel time in Creeping Mode | ≈4 h at an ambient temperature of 34 °C (at high speed) |
Standing in Squatting Mode | ≈15 min at an ambient temperature of 25 °C |
Maximum continuous travel time in Standing Mode | ≈3 h at an ambient temperature of 34 °C (at low speed) |
Overall, DIABLO comes with a multitude of capabilities, including superb anti-fall performance, strong self-recovery, efficient and flexible movement in various complex environments, etc. It can also jump 8 cm with no load and successfully copes with small slopes.
The Direct Drive DIABLO is operated via the supplied remote controller.
