The E3D V6 HotEnd is an all-metal universal hotend tailored for efficient high-temperature printing. It is compatible with a wide range of filaments, including advanced materials. Apart from this, the HotEnd allows printing at different resolutions and sizes within the versatile E3D V6 ecosystem.
The V6 comes available in four versions — default, Gold Edition, Lite 6, and dedicated Prusa V6 — each of which has its own benefits. Also, the package differs in terms of input diameter, input type, voltage, and extra kits. For more information check out the “What’s in the box” section.
Thanks to its reliable construction and enhanced productivity, the E3D V6 HotEnd is suited for manifold professional and personal applications.
The V6’s all-metal design allows it to comfortably reach 300 °C with the supplied thermistor. To print at even higher temperatures (up to 500 °C), use a plated copper heater block along with a PT100 or PT1000. With this range, one can work with both standard (PLA, PETG, ABS) and engineering-grade materials (Polycarbonate, Ultem, Nylon, PEEK).
Alongside high performance, the V6 introduces a no-fuss approach to replacing both heater cartridges and temperature sensors. They can be simply slid into place and secured with a grub screw, ensuring easy and painless maintenance procedures.
The V6’s reliable HeatBreak provides improved control over filament output, which results in a lower risk of oozing and stringing. Thanks to the refined internal surface finish, it also allows for reduced extrusion force and improves the reliability of retractions.
Serving as homage to the original V6 HotEnd, the Gold Edition offers a number of significant improvements in terms of its constituent parts. For example, the aluminum heater block is replaced by a plated copper one, which increases heat transfer and reduces the chance of filament sticking issue. The latter is particularly useful for high-temperature printing situations.
Furthermore, the standard brass nozzle is upgraded to hardened steel. Compared to the former, the hardened steel nozzle does not wear down by abrasive materials that fast. With it, one can safely print with carbon fiber, wood, or metal filled filaments.
Another step forward is high-precision, quick release heater cartridges instead of the standard ones. In addition to easier maintenance and upgradeability, they offer spot-on physical dimensions for greater surface area contact and improved electrical specifications for more stable performance.
Finally, the standard PTFE guide is upgraded to high-tolerance Capricorn PTFE tubing, with a tighter diameter and much-reduced friction, providing smoother, more accurate extrusion.
With a temperature limit of 240 °C, the Lite 6 version is not the best option for printing higher-performance engineering filaments like Nylon, Polycarbonate, or Ultem. Still, the HotEnd boasts a decent speed and precision, which makes it ideal for fast 3D printers.
Further advantage is the stainless steel body that ensures increased strength and durability as well as good thermal resistance. Due to these important characteristics, the HotEnd is perfect for new users: it is really hard to damage.
The Prusa V6 version features a specific heatbreak with a custom internal geometry, providing more reliability with retractions when using the MMU. To ensure a true drop-in replacement experience, the HotEnd is supplied with a dedicated thermistor with a pre-prepared extension cable.
The device comes with everything one needs to start 3D printing right after receiving the package, from specific tools to handy add-ons.
