The Intamsys ASA (acrylonitrile styrene acrylate) is an engineering-grade filament designed by the Intamsys company specifically for FDM printing. In its performance, ASA thermoplastic is very close to ABS, and they can be interchangeable in many cases. The key difference is ASA’s outstanding UV and weather resistance, opposed to ABS which gradually becomes brittle being exposed to direct sunlight.
ASA is often used for manufacturing outdoor models, such as sport equipment, exterior car elements, electronics components, garden appliances, and more.
Other mechanical properties of ASA are slightly better compared to ABS. ASA-printed parts offer high mechanical strength, stiffness, and resistance to a number of chemicals. They can be used at temperatures up to 90 °C. Like ABS, ASA is easily post-processable. The models can be smoothed, bonded if needed, primed, painted, or coated.
The recommended extruder temperature for printing the Intamsys ASA filament is 240–260 °C, and the temperature of the heated bed is 75–95 °C. It is highly recommended to use a 3D printer with an enclosed heated build chamber to avoid shrinkage, and to turn on the cooling fans while printing.
The Intamsys ASA 1.75 mm filament is sold in 1 kg spools. It comes vacuum-sealed with desiccant.
