Makerbot Replicator Z18 3D printer

MakerBot Replicator Z18 is a device for large-size printing. The name speaks for itself. "Z18" stands for "18 inches in the vertical plane", which gives a good idea of ​​the true dimensions of the working area. In the horizontal plane, the dimensions are somewhat modest, but they are all equally impressive: 12 inches along the X and Y axes.

The Makerbot Replicator Z18 is a professional FDM 3D printer. The machine is widely used by professionals and enthusiasts worldwide.

Print quality

The Makerbot Replicator Z18 can print at 100 microns. The made models are not as smooth as you would get with the more expensive printers, but it is enough for experimenting with printing and even professional use.

The Makerbot Replicator Z18 has a 0.4 mm nozzle.

The print head runs on rods with linear bearings, making the design more simple and effective.

Materials

The extruder comes with a fan for printing with PLA-type materials. The fan reduces warping and stringing, which allows to make higher quality prints.

Unlike many FDM printers, the Makerbot Replicator Z18 has a heated print bed and closed print chamber, which means it can safely work with ABS-type materials.

Makerbot Replicator Z18 prints with MakerBot PLA Filament, additional materials such as bronzefill, copperfill, woodfill and others. 

The Makerbot Replicator Mini only works with own-brand filament. This ensures quality, as all the branded materials go through a strict quality assurance process. 

Build volume

The build area of the printer is 11.8 x 12 x 18 inches (300 x 305 x 457 mm). Check out this 3D printed model of Admiral Yi Sun-Shin, a Korean naval commander who is famous for his victories against the Japanese navy during the Imjin war. Its height is 45 cm and its weight is 900 g. 

Printer controls

The printer is controlled via PC or the built-in LCD interface. 

3D models can be transferred via USB, Ethernet or Wi­fi. Printer’s built in camera will keep you posted.

The printer is compatible with the MakerBot software and works with 3D models in STL and OBJ formats. The software is available for Windows, Mac OS X. Linux users will need to install a virtual machine.
