Modix IDEX Dual Printhead

The IDEX dual printhead for the Modix Generation 4 3D printers is an independent dual extruder enabling multi-material printing for the company’s BIG series V4. The add-on implies independent control of each extruder. Thus, when the active extruder is printing, the secondary one is idle and “parked” outside the printing area. This leads to generally cleaner and more accurate outcomes compared to other dual material configurations.

The add-on allows printing advanced models with complex or internal geometries by using water-soluble filament. 

Furthermore, printing the dense support layer with a breakaway support filament makes for reduced manual labor required to remove support structures. Since there is no need to keep an air gap between the dense support and the model itself, the surface of the printed object comes out clean and smooth, saving a lot of time on sanding during post-processing.

The Modix IDEX add-on is compatible with all the company’s Generation 4 3D printers. It includes:

• Secondary printing subsystem: Griffin print head, clog detector, PTFE, spool mount.
• Motion system: secondary Y axis motor with the required components (belts, pulleys, etc.).
• Metal brackets for both Y axis and print heads.
• Wires, drag chains, and optical end-stops.
