The Einscan HX is an industrial handheld 3D scanner from the Shining 3D's major series of products. This Einscan model combines two light sources: blue laser and structured light. It is a premium lightweight device with a futuristic and ergonomic design that can be taken to remote sites for scanning.

The Einscan HX boasts high-resolution scans, large scan volume, fast operation speed, advanced software, and a handful of other useful features for truly professional experience in reverse engineering and more. It offers an innovative hybrid system that employs dual blue LED light scanning technology allowing it to enter the rapid 3D scanning mode. Besides, there is a laser scanning mode, which is less sensitive to ambient light, designed to capture dark-colored models and objects with reflective surfaces. Thanks to its built-in color camera, the Einscan HX scanner supports full color / texture capturing.

The recommended object size range is between 30 and 300 cm.

The Einscan HX hybrid blue laser and LED light handheld 3D scanner greatly improves scanning materials adaptability and is compatible with a wider range of object sizes for more application possibilities. Therefore, it can be used in a plethora of different areas, such as:

  • Architecture
  • Art and generative design
  • Reverse engineering
  • Manufacturing
  • Industrial engineering
  • AR, VR, 3D modeling
  • Heritage preservation, artifact restoration
  • Science and education
  • Healthcare
  • Full-body and partial human scans

Scan accuracy

The EinScan HX is a hybrid dual blue LED light and blue laser light handheld 3D scanner that features high accuracy and scan speed for most objects meeting multiple needs of users, including industrial applications. With blue laser and LED light innovatively integrated sources, it provides different precision and speed levels depending on the mode selected and light source applied. The Rapid Scan Mode can provide a minimum point distance of up to 0.05 mm at a speed of up to 1,200,000 points/s. The Laser Scan Mode with multiple blue laser lines allows scanning at up to 480,000 points/s providing a level of accuracy of up to 0.04 mm.

Scanning modes specifics

Based on years of 3D measurement experience and market demand, SHINING 3D innovatively integrates blue LED light and blue laser into the EinScan HX handheld 3D scanner for more versatility and better performance with two scanning modes. LED light scanning allows rapid 3D scanning, while laser scanning, which is less sensitive to ambient light, provides better performance to reflective and dark color surface.

Scan volume

The EinScan HX hybrid laser and blue LED light source handheld 3D scanner offers quite a large single-scan range. In rapid mode, the product works within a wider depth of field up to 200–700 mm and provides a 420 x 440 mm FOV with a distance between points from 0.25 mm to 3 mm. For laser mode, there is an outstanding 350–610 mm depth of field along with a max FOV of 380 x 400 mm and 0.05–3 mm distance between points.

Scanning tips

Overall tips for better experience with the EinScan HX handheld 3D scanner:

  • When using the Rapid Scan Mode, apply a matte spray to scan dark color surface, shiny, and transparent objects
  • Scan with a dark background
  • Use correct scanner settings
  • Fine-tune your scanner
  • Create a controlled environment
  • Avoid scanning moving objects

The Laser Scan mode (laser light source) of the EinScan HX is designed for:

  • Scanning objects with a transparent, black, or shiny surface
  • Scanning with markers

The Rapid Scan mode (blue LED light source) of the EinScan HX is designed for:

  • A fast scanning experience
  • Scanning objects with good geometry with the use of markers, feature, hybrid, and texture align modes

Scanner controls

Engineered for portable and easy operation, EinScan HX represents an ergonomic plug-and-play device with user-friendly software. To begin using the EinScan HX LED light & blue laser scanner to your heart's content, just connect it to your computer with the dedicated USB cable and complete the setup as per the manual.

Software

The hybrid LED light and blue laser EinScan HX 3D scanner comes with a proprietary ExScan Pro software solution. It is a professional user friendly software for high quality 3D scanning and wider data processing that offers a high variety of advanced functions for data editing and reverse engineering. For instance, it features such editing tools as smoothing, simplification, manual and automatic hole filling, and sharpening.

Moreover, the EinScan HX scanner is supplied with the Solid Edge SHINING 3D Edition. It is a 3D design software for the Einscan devices that can be used to assist with various industrial tasks, reverse engineering, generative design, convergent and synchronous modeling.

For mesh editing, we strongly recommend acquiring the software for its many tools to analyze and clean mesh data (select the Einscan HX RED (Reverse Engineering Design) Bundle when placing your order). Scan data is often-times imperfect, meaning there might be holes and inconsistencies that you'll be scratching your head on how to fix. The ExScan software and Solid Edge do have a toolkit for fixing meshes but it is not as extensive or automatic as in the Geomagic Essentials. You will save a lot of time with the full Scan to CAD process with Geomagic Essentials in between, not to mention its high efficiency at working with large-sized files. The standard CAD software suites, such as Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor, etc., tend to have problems with large mesh files.

There are two ways the Geomagic Essentials software can help with reverse engineering. If your focus is on solid modeling you can use GE to extract CAD data (surfaces and solids) and curve data (wire-frame geometry) from triangular meshes (scan data). The region and feature extraction toolkit will help you extract faces or bounded surfaces and export into an IGES or STP format. The curve drawing tools will help you extract wire-frame geometry and export to IGES format. These two datasets along with the scan file are essential for a reverse engineering workflow. The NURBS surfacing tool also helps create a lightweight CAD model that you can export to an STP file for the SolidWorks software. This is especially helpful if your focus is on free-form modeling because you can freely manipulate the surface data in the Geomagic and most CAD programs.

Having such powerful software tools at your disposal in combination with the EinScan HX itself, you will be in a strong position to execute even complex industrial and reverse engineering projects with wider Einscan options for better performance.
