UP Box+ is a fully-enclosed FDM professional 3D printer produced by Tiertime. With an industrial background, the company decided to create a desktop-sized device packed with a set of industrial features difficult to find in similarly priced machines. Based on the UP Plus and Plus 2 3D printers, the Box+ comes with a series of automatic functionalities, which streamlines the overall printing process. It is the right choice for both 3D printing professionals and educators.
The machine comes pre-assembled and ready to work. It offers a print area of 255 x 205 x 205 mm. It lets you print medium-sized 3D models with an accuracy of 0.1mm. Unlike its precursors, it works at a 30% faster speed. On the automated side, you can find a thoughtful blackout recovery system, which allows restarting a print in case of a power outage, an end-of-spool detection sensor, and an automatic bed calibration system. The printer also includes two types of replaceable platforms with different levels of adhesion (UP Perf and UP Flex). For safer use, it is engineered with recirculating HEPA filtration with activated carbon. A password-protected Wi-Fi connection lets you easily share your prints and operate the device wirelessly.
Chosen by makers, designers, engineers and teachers alike, the UP Box+ has been used to print several objects, such as toy guns, functional parts, home decorations, and more. Read on for a deeper review.
For example, a group of makers fabricated an arsenal of toy weapons. Printed in parts, this machine gun looks well-detailed and accurate.
These 3D printed gears have been produced using the UP Box+. Coated with iron and rust, they show clean and smooth edges.
The UP Box + is a professional FDM 3D printer that can print layers at 100 microns. The surface finish is not as smooth as you get with the more expensive printers but is more than enough for prototyping and educational use. Equipped with a set of useful sensors, the printer is able to prevent printing failures generally caused by power outages and end of the filament. The two different platforms included feature special textures designed to provide adequate adhesion to any print. That’s why the UP Box+ is capable of producing high-quality parts for both prototyping and end-use production.
Despite its small size, this little rabbit is quite smooth and detailed.
The UP Box + comes stock with two 0.4 mm nozzles, giving you the best balance between speed and detail.
This Notre Dame de Paris cathedral has been printed at 0.1mm layer height. Notice how accurate and finely detailed it looks.

The print head runs on rods with linear bearings, making the design more simple, lightweight and effective, all characteristics that are desirable in a 3D printer.
UP Box + prints with ABS, PLA, PLA Composites, Polycarbonate, Bronze, Conductive, Nylon, Wood, ASA, PET, Flexible, Carbon Fiber and more.
The extruder comes with a fan for printing with PLA-type materials. By cooling the model down, it reduces warping, stringing and, generally, makes for higher quality prints.
Unlike many FDM printers, the UP Box + has a heated print bed and closed print chamber, which means it can reliably print with ABS-type and other temperature-sensitive materials.
The UP Box + prints with 1.75 mm filament, providing you with a wide choice of materials.
The build volume of 10 x 8.1 x 8.1 inches (255 x 205 x 205 mm) lets you print a variety of 3D models in one piece, without the need for slicing.
The printer is controlled via a USB- or Wifi-tethered computer. Just choose the way you prefer to share your 3D files and start printing.
The printer works with both UP Studio desktop software and UP Studio App. Easy-to-use and usable, the desktop software features a smart-support technology. It offers software-assisted calibration and automatic calibration. Still, it is capable of detecting and fixing 3D model errors. It runs on both Windows and macOS X. It supports a variety of proprietary and generic file formats (up3, ups, stl, obj, 3mf, ply, off, 3ds, gcode).

UP Box + is available in a black & orange color palette. Its stylish look makes it ideal for both home, educational and professional use.
The printer dimensions are 19.4 x 20.4 x 19.4 inches (493 × 517 × 493 mm). It weighs 44.1 lb (20 kg). The spool holder is mounted inside the device.
The price of the UP Box + is $1,358.00, which is reasonable considering its semi-automated functionality and safety.
