Wanhao Duplicator 5S 3D printer

The Wanhao Duplicator 5S is a personal FDM 3D printer. It is aimed at schools, architectural offices, and small businesses. Many hobbyists and students have been using it to create a series of interesting 3D models. This affordable machine ships fully assembled. It has a metal frame which makes it robust and durable. It boasts a massive build volume of 305x205x605mm. It allows for large prints in both ABS and PLA filament materials. For this reason, it comes with two different print beds. The regular glass plate addresses to PLA filaments, while the heated one addresses to ABS-type materials. Keep reading for more details.

The Duplicator 5S has been used to print a wide variety of models, including the ball-jointed doll in the picture below. It has been made from an open-source model created by a Spanish designer. The file is available on Thingiverse for further improvements.

The CAD House company used it to produce a man-sized, 5-feet tall doll. The model has been printed with the Wanhao Duplicator 5S for larger parts and with the 5S mini for the smaller ones.

It took an overall time of 240 hours to print and assemble all the components.

Print quality

The Wanhao Duplicator 5S can print at 20 microns. This way you can produce parts with smooth exterior surfaces. It adopts two different beds to ensure accurate results with both PLA and ABS-type filaments.

The Wanhao Duplicator 5S has a 0.4 mm nozzle.

The print head runs on rods with linear bearings.

Materials

Wanhao Duplicator 5S prints with PLA, NYLON 645 PVA, ABS, and other materials. You should set the right printing temperature for both ABS and PLA.

The extruder features a fan for printing with PLA-type materials reducing warping issues.

The Wanhao Duplicator 5S has a heated print bed, which makes it suitable for printing with ABS-type materials.

To solve the issue of temperature fluctuations and ensure high reproducibility it is recommended to install an enclosed print chamber.

The Wanhao Duplicator 5S prints with 3.0mm(+0.05 -0.05) mm filament, providing you with a wide choice of materials.

Build volume

The build area of the printer is 12 x 8.1 x 23.8 inches (305 x 205 x 605 mm). It lets you print a huge range of big prints in one go, making it ideal for functional components.

Printer controls

The printer caan be controlled via a USB-tethered computer or via the built-in LCD interface. 

3D models can be printed from computer via USB and SD card. 

The printer supports all the commercial 3D printing slicing software, which are available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS as well. It works with 3D models in STL format.

Look and feel

Wanhao Duplicator 5S is available in black and blue colors. 

The printer dimensions are 18.1 x 15.7 x 33.9 inches (460 x 400 x 860 mm). It weighs 77 lb (35 kg). The spool holder is mounted on the back of the printer.
