Overview

The Shining 3D AutoScan-DS-EX dental 3D scanner uses structured light technology to capture the finest texture details and produce extremely accurate and detailed scans in a relatively short time. Designed specifically for the dental industry, the scanner is lightweight and very compact — an ideal combination for dental clinics and laboratories.

The device allows for scanning in the articulator, triple scanning (top, bottom, dental impression), as well as texture digitization. It can be connected to a computer both directly and via a local area network (LAN), which significantly reduces the time for post-processing of finished scans.

In addition to clinics and laboratories, the AutoScan-DS-EX can also be used in educational institutions. It is easy to learn how to work with the scanner since virtually the whole process is automated.

Comparison with the analog

The closest analog of the Shining 3D AutoScan-DS-EX is the Medit T310 laboratory dental scanner — a desktop scanning device with highly efficient software, fast positioning system, and two high-resolution cameras.

The Medit T310 outperforms the AutoScan-DS-EX in terms of accuracy and speed. Besides, it ensures color scanning.

The AutoScan-DS-EX is three times lighter than the Medit T310, with its volume almost 40% smaller. However, the scanning range of the AutoScan-DS-EX is 71% larger. In addition, the AutoScan-DS-EX is far more affordable and thus more suitable for clinics that do not require exceptional scanning accuracy and speed.

Overview

The Shining 3D AutoScan-DS-EX Pro dental scanner is the result of a significant modernization of the AutoScan-DS-EX model. Having the same weight and size, it differs from its predecessor by considerably higher accuracy and speed.

The AutoScan-DS-EX Pro boasts some new features as well:

  • Gaps processing — the device builds the optimal scanning path and, if necessary, fills the unscanned holes by re-scanning.
  • Dynamic scanning mode allows capturing the relative position of jaws and increases the accuracy of bite scans.
  • All-in-one method enables scanning quadrant and matrix models simultaneously. This almost doubles the speed of the scanning process and greatly simplifies it.

The AutoScan-DS-EX Pro can scan a wax model, abutment, die, plaster cast, impression, a texture. It is compatible with articulators by different manufacturers.

The balance of advantages and shortcomings of the AutoScan-DS-EX Pro and the T710 is the same as that of the two previous models under consideration:

  • The scanning accuracy and speed of the Medit T710 are about twice as high as those of the AutoScan-DS-EX Pro;
  • The Medit T710 provides color scanning;
  • The AutoScan-DS-EX Pro has a smaller weight and size yet a significantly larger scanning volume;
  • The AutoScan-DS-EX Pro is much more affordable.

Overview

A distinctive feature of the Shining 3D AutoScan-DS-MIX dental scanner is the presence of two high-resolution cameras that ensure excellent fixation of abutment boundary lines and other peculiarities of scanned objects. The software used by the scanner identifies areas that have not been scanned, in which case an additional scan is performed.

AutoScan-DS-MIX supports static and dynamic scanning modes for the most common articulators, as well as automatic articulator transfer for Artex, Kavo, SAM, and Bio-Art. Scan modes include abutment, articulator, veneer, undivided model, all-in-one, impression, texture, etc.

With its high accuracy and speed of scanning as well as the quality of detail, the AutoScan-DS-MIX is widely used in dentistry, especially prosthodontics.

Specifications

  • Outer dimensions: 238 х 340 х 447 mm
  • Weight: 7.5 kg
  • Scanning accuracy: ≤ 7 µm
  • Camera resolution: 2 x 5 MP
  • Scanning time: bite — 6 s; upper/lower jaw — 13 s; dies — 18 s (1-4), 33 s (5-8); impression — 32 s
  • Output formats: STL, PLY
  • Color scanning: no
